Saw this interview of Lazlow Jones, the legendary writer, director and producer for Rockstar Games in games such as GTA, Max Payne and Red Dead Redemption. He's been doing lots of actual audio work in the GTA series including the dialogs in the in-game radio stations, but he was also responsible for audio recording directing in GTA: San Andreas back in 2003-2004. Rockstar and GTA have always impressed me with their audio design and its complexity and diversity. I've never gotten tired of listening to some Grand Theft Auto radio while cruising around Los Santos. Apparently, they've traveled across the US to be able to record accurate accents and dialects of different regions. According to the interview, in GTA: San Andreas they decided to use actual gang members to do voiceover work for the gangsters in-game. 😂 They had written a script for the gang members, but they seemingly decided to write their own phrases to be more realistic, and Rockstar allowed it for the sake of realism and authenticity.
